Old Town Art Installation
Anyone in the area of Brown and 1st Street early this week may have noticed artist Elizabeth Conner beginning to install her sculptural work "Hidden Histories" at the corner of the parking garage and at the lot entrance. "Hidden Histories" will reference historical elements of Scottsdale's past such as: the pima cotton and citrus fields, Western motifs, the yaqui people, and the eclectic industries such as ice, metalwork, and art. The grouping of objects also reference the heat and plant life of the desert as they provide a place of rest and interaction for pedestrians moving through the area. New Neighborhood Connector Service Underway
Scottsdale's transit division began a new service to the community on Sunday, June 4. That's when the "Neighborhood Connector" started operating between the new Granite Reef Senior Center and Scottsdale's downtown and Civic Center Mall area. This free service will help residents, business owners, seniors and students trying to reach key destinations in the southern area of the city, by providing another transit option. The new service is designed to connect neighborhoods south of Indian School Road to McDowell Road.
The Connector will run seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every 20 minutes. Trolley drivers will pickup and drop off passengers any place along the route where the trolley can safely stop, and riders may simply wave down the trolley anywhere along the route. The Connector serves the Granite Reef Senior Center, Eldorado Park/Boys and Girls Club and pool, Coronado High School, Osborn Post Office, Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn Hospital, Vista del Camino, Loloma Transit Station and the Civic Center Mall including the library, Center for the Performing Arts, City Hall, and the Historical Society. CONSTRUCTION UPDATES
Camelback Road, from 66th Street to Goldwater Boulevard Westbound traffic on Camelback Road, from 66th Street to Goldwater Boulevard, will be reduced to one lane at times from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily through June 16 to permit power line installation. During those same dates and times, lane restrictions will take place at times in both directions on 66th Street north of Camelback Road.
Stetson Drive, North of Fifth Avenue to West of Scottsdale Road Stetson Drive, north of Fifth Avenue to west of Scottsdale Road is completely closed to southbound traffic through June for construction of a parking garage. Stetson will remain open to northbound traffic in this area.
LAUNCH OF TROLLEY ROUTE POSTPONED
Due to a mechanical problem, the Downtown Trolley service will continue using its existing route. Service on the new trolley route was scheduled to start today, Jan. 20, but was postponed to permit technicians to resolve some mechanical issues with the Marshall Way Bridge. Scottsdale Has Phone, Web Site to Answer ADA Questions
The city now has a contact number and Web site to assist with answering questions, concerns or complaints related to the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). The Web site -- http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/accessible/ -- is titled "Accessible Scottsdale" and is designed to help residents, business owners and developers better understand their rights and responsibilities under the ADA, the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), and the Fair Housing Act.
